Anti-Dandruff series · Step 1

Dr Scalp Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

Flakes on a dark shirt by mid-morning.

Scratching in meetings. A different medicated shampoo every few months, none of them lasting.

Flaking is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Dry scalp, product build-up and seborrhoeic dermatitis look identical in a mirror, and none of them are treated the same way.

A daily sulphate-free wash with liquorice root, Coptis, Scutellaria and tea tree, for the flaking and the itch that comes with it. Give it eight weeks.

  1. Wet the hair thoroughly. Two to three pumps into the palm.
  2. Work it into the scalp, not the lengths. Pads of the fingers, never the nails. Scratching is what turns flaking into soreness.
  3. Massage until it lathers. It lathers less than a supermarket shampoo, that is the sulphate-free base, not a fault.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water, then follow with the Anti-Dandruff Conditioner from mid-length down.

Fit

Is this the right one for you?

One problem per series. This is the Anti-Dandruff series. If your main problem is something else, one of the other five will do more for you than this will.

Choose this if

  • Flakes on a dark shirt by mid-morning
  • The itch arrives before the flakes do
  • You have rotated through medicated shampoos and none of them lasted
  • It comes back every time you stop

Look elsewhere if

Redness, weeping, or flakes coming off in sheets?

Get scanned before you buy anything. That pattern can be seborrhoeic dermatitis rather than cosmetic flaking, and that needs a doctor rather than a shampoo. Four zones at high magnification tell us which of the three you have in about fifteen minutes — and if the answer is the medical one, we will say so and send you on.

Why it works

Flaking is a symptom, not a diagnosis.

At least three different things make a scalp flake. A scalp that is genuinely dry. Oil and product building up around the follicle and shedding in sheets. And seborrhoeic dermatitis, which is inflammatory and usually needs a doctor. All three look the same in a bathroom mirror, which is why the medicated shampoo aisle works for some people and does nothing at all for others.

This wash is built for the first two. The herbal set is liquorice root, Coptis, Scutellaria, Forsythia, Artemisia, Platycodon and hawthorn, with tea tree and eucalyptus oils, in a sulphate-free base. Borneol is what you feel as the cool tingle. Every one of those is on the ingredient list in the buy panel above, in that order.

What it will not do. It is not medicated. There is no ketoconazole, no zinc pyrithione and no selenium sulfide in it, and it is not a substitute for anything a doctor has prescribed you. If your flaking comes with redness, weeping, or flakes that lift off in sheets, that is a doctor's conversation. Book the scan and we will tell you which of the three you have. If the answer is the third one, we will say so rather than take $68 from you.

What it actually does

Four jobs, and curing dandruff is not one of them.

A shampoo for flaking is not a hair-growth product, and this page will not pretend otherwise. Here is the formula described by what is in the bottle, all of it checkable on the ingredient list.

01 · It is not medicated, and we will not pretend

No ketoconazole, no zinc pyrithione

No ketoconazole, no zinc pyrithione, no selenium sulfide. This is a cosmetic wash for cosmetic flaking; if yours is medical, you need a doctor.

02 · It works on the flaking and the itch

Liquorice, Coptis, Scutellaria, Forsythia

Liquorice, Coptis, Scutellaria and Forsythia sit from eleventh to eighteenth, with Artemisia, Platycodon and hawthorn. Tea tree and eucalyptus settle the itch.

03 · It cleans without stripping

A sulphate-free base

Sulphate-free, so it lifts build-up without leaving the scalp raw. A harsh wash makes flaking worse, not better.

04 · It is honest about the oils

Tea tree, eucalyptus, lavandin

Tea tree, eucalyptus and lavandin, plus alcohol and fragrance. Borneol is the cool tingle; there is no menthol in it.

What to expect

Week by week, and the week that actually counts.

The itch usually moves before the flakes do. If neither has moved by week eight, this is probably not the kind of flaking a cosmetic wash fixes, and that is worth knowing too.

  1. Week 1–2The itch goes firstAlmost always the first thing to change, and it changes before the flakes do. The lather is smaller than you are used to, which is the sulphate-free base.
  2. Week 3–6Less on the shouldersThe visible flaking drops. This is usually the point at which people who have spent years rotating between brands stop rotating.
  3. Week 8The week to judge itWe scan you again and put week one and week eight side by side. If nothing has moved, it is probably not cosmetic flaking, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a second bottle.
  4. Month 3–6It holds, while you keep goingFlaking returns if the routine stops. That is true of medicated shampoos too, and it is true of ours. Every wash, not just the bad weeks.
The Anti-Dandruff routine

Step one of three.

The shampoo lifts the build-up and settles the itch. The conditioner looks after the lengths, which a dandruff wash ignores completely. The tonic is on the scalp between washes, which is where most of the change comes from. Used alone it still helps. Used together it is a system.

Sixty minutes

Not sure this is the right one?

Guessing is expensive. Your first treatment is $59 and it opens with an AI scan of your scalp, so the next thing you buy is the one you actually need.

Before you buy

Questions we get asked

No. There is no ketoconazole, no zinc pyrithione and no selenium sulfide in it. It is a cosmetic wash built on herbal extracts and tea tree. If a doctor has prescribed you something, keep taking it. This is not a replacement for it.

Yes, and every wash rather than only when it flares. Using a dandruff shampoo reactively, in the bad weeks only, is the single most common reason it keeps coming back.

Honestly, if a medicated shampoo is working for you, keep using it. This is for people it has stopped working for, or who would rather not use one every day. The part nobody else offers is the scan, which tells you which of the three kinds of flaking you actually have.

My flakes come with redness and lift off in sheets.

That may be more than cosmetic flaking. Book the scan before you buy anything. If it looks like seborrhoeic dermatitis we will tell you and point you to a doctor, and we would rather do that than take $68 from you.

Yes. No sulphates, so it will not strip tone. If fade is your main concern rather than flaking, the Colour Protect series is the better fit.

From your account, or one message to either studio. No minimum term, no cancellation fee.

Give us at least 48 hours before your next delivery is due. Inside that window the parcel is usually already packed, so it goes out as it is and the change applies from the order after.

Yes, free, ready within 24 hours at Raffles City or The Centrepoint. We'll email you the moment it's ready.

Come and talk to us rather than quietly giving up. Eight weeks is the fair test, and a free scalp scan at either studio will show whether the scalp is moving or whether you are simply on the wrong bottle — if it is the wrong one, we will put you on the right one. And if you are holding something unopened, you can exchange it within 14 days of purchase for another product, or a treatment, of equal or higher value.

It helps, but the tonic is what stays on your scalp between washes, and flaking is a between-washes problem. If you are buying one thing from this range, buy the tonic.
