Dry & Frizzy Hair

Hair that drinks up the humidity and swells, and ends that have stopped holding on to anything. Three steps — one that cleans without stripping, one that puts moisture in, and one that keeps it from leaving.

Is this you?

Three signs this range is yours.

One

It swells the moment you step outside

Smooth in an air-conditioned room, and three times the size by the time you have walked to the MRT.

Two

Your ends feel like straw

Rough between your fingers, pale at the tips, and tangling at the slightest provocation.

Three

Nothing you put on it lasts

Product sits on the surface, behaves for an hour, and then the frizz comes back up through it.

The routine

Three steps — wash, treat, then seal.

The wash cleans the scalp without stripping the lengths. The masque puts moisture in. The oil keeps it from leaving.

Dr Scalp Colour Protect Shampoo View more Step one

Dr Scalp Colour Protect Shampoo

$88.00

Wash. A gentle cleanse at the scalp in warm water, worked through the roots rather than scrubbed down the lengths. What you wash with matters here — a stripping shampoo takes out exactly the moisture the next two steps are trying to put in.

Dr Scalp Restoration Hair Masque View more Step two

Dr Scalp Restoration Hair Masque

$138.00

Treat. On clean, damp hair from the mid-lengths down, left five minutes while you get on with something else. This is the step that puts moisture back in.

Dr Scalp Restoration Hair Oil View more Step three

Dr Scalp Restoration Hair Oil

$58.00

Seal. A small amount through damp ends after the masque, and again on dry hair when the humidity is winning. This is the step that keeps the moisture where you put it.

If you only use one thing, use this.

Dr Scalp Restoration Hair Masque$138.00

Oil on hair that has no moisture in it only makes dry hair shiny. The masque is the step that puts something back, so it is the one to begin with if you are beginning with one — the shampoo keeps you from washing it straight back out, and the oil is what stops it escaping.

Used once or twice a week on clean, damp hair from the mid-lengths down. Five minutes is enough. The oil makes it last longer; it is not a substitute for it.

What is actually happening

Frizz is your hair looking for water

Frizz is not hair misbehaving. It is dry hair doing exactly what dry hair does in Singapore.

  1. Every strand has a cuticle — overlapping scales that lie flat when the hair inside has enough moisture in it.

  2. When it has not, those scales lift, and lifted scales let the humidity straight in.

  3. Singapore air has plenty to offer. The strand swells unevenly along its length, and that unevenness is what you see as frizz.

  4. Then it dries out again indoors under aircon, and the swelling and shrinking wears the cuticle down a little more each time.

Frizzy hair is not too wet on the outside. It is too dry on the inside.

Frizz haloed against the light.
Small habits, real cost

What makes it worse without you noticing

None of these makes hair dry on its own. All of them keep a lifted cuticle from settling back down — and every one is free to fix.

  • Hot water lifts the cuticle before you have even left the shower — wash warm, finish cool.

  • Rubbing your hair dry with a towel roughs up every scale on it. Squeeze instead.

  • Brushing dry frizzy hair breaks it. Detangle while it is damp, from the ends upward.

  • A cotton pillowcase takes moisture out all night and hands you the frizz back in the morning.

  • Singapore sun dries the outer layer faster than the inside can replace it.

  • Oil on dry hair with nothing underneath seals the dryness in rather than fixing it.

Common questions

Each range is built around one scalp concern, and every product page says who it is for and who it is not for. If you are not sure, a scalp scan at either studio reads your scalp in four zones and tells you which range fits. You are not obliged to buy anything at the end of it.

Start with the masque. It is the step that puts moisture back, and oil on hair with nothing in it only makes dry hair shine. The oil is what keeps that moisture from leaving again, so the two together last a great deal longer than the masque on its own. The shampoo is the step that stops you undoing both of them at the next wash — well worth adding, but the masque is the one to buy first.

Your ends will feel different after the first masque; that part is immediate. Frizz control takes longer, because it depends on the cuticle lying flat again, and that is a matter of weeks of not roughing it back up.

Both, in different places. The masque and the oil work on the strand itself, from the mid-lengths down, because that is where dryness and frizz actually live. The shampoo works at the scalp, and it is in the routine because what you wash with either protects the other two steps or undoes them. If your scalp is also dry, tight or flaking, that is a different range — and you can use both.

Yes, and people often do — a shampoo from one range with a tonic from another, for example. What you should not do is layer two tonics at once. If you are unsure about a combination, message us before you buy using the contact details at the foot of this page.

Tell your doctor what you are using and follow what they say — that is the only answer anyone should give you here. Every ingredient is listed in full on each product page so you can take it to them, and our therapists will go through it with you at a scan if that is easier.
