Oil Control series · Step 1

Dr Scalp Oil Control Shampoo

Clean at 8am. Flat and greasy by 3pm.

Roots you check in the lift mirror. Hair tied up because you have run out of options.

Washing more often is what made it worse. A wash that strips reads to the scalp as a shortage, and the scalp answers by making more oil.

A daily sulphate-free wash built around 5αAVOCUTA, which works on the gland instead of scrubbing the surface.

  1. Wet the hair thoroughly. Two to three pumps into the palm.
  2. Work it into the scalp, not the lengths. Pads of the fingers, not the nails.
  3. Massage until it lathers. It lathers less than a supermarket shampoo, that is the sulphate-free base, not a fault.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water, then follow with the Oil Control Conditioner from mid-length down.

Fit

Is this the right one for you?

One problem per series. This is the Oil Control series. If your main problem is something else, one of the other five will do more for you than this will.

Choose this if

  • Clean at 8am, greasy by 3pm
  • You wash every day and it has stopped helping
  • Your parting shines under office lighting
  • You tie your hair up to hide the roots

Look elsewhere if

Flaking as well as oil? Get scanned first.

An oily scalp and seborrhoeic flaking sit right next to each other and look almost the same in a mirror. They are treated differently, and buying the wrong series is the most expensive mistake on this website. Fifteen minutes and four photographs settle it — a trial treatment is $59 and the scan comes with it.

Why it works

You did not cause this by washing too little.

The gland at the base of every follicle makes oil continuously, all day, whether you washed this morning or not. Strip the scalp hard and it reads the shortage as a signal to make more. That is why washing more often with a harsh shampoo so often ends with a scalp greasier by the afternoon than it was the month before.

The active is Butyl Avocadate, sold as 5αAVOCUTA, an avocado-derived ingredient that works on the gland rather than the surface. It is tenth on the ingredient list in the buy panel above, so you can check it yourself. Around it sit horse chestnut, chamomile, rosemary, sage, nettle and coltsfoot, in a sulphate-free base built to lift oil without the harshness that starts the rebound. It lathers less than a supermarket shampoo. That is the base, not a fault.

What it will not do. It will not stop your scalp making oil, and nothing should. Oil is what keeps the scalp barrier intact. What it does is bring the volume down to something that gets you through a working day. And if what you have is flaking and redness alongside the grease, that is seborrhoeic dermatitis, a different problem with a different answer, and possibly a doctor's conversation. We would rather say so than sell you a bottle.

What it actually does

Four jobs. Nothing about miracles.

A shampoo for an oily scalp is not a hair-growth product. Here is the same formula described by what is in the bottle and what the wash does, all of it checkable on the ingredient list.

01 · It works on the gland, not the surface

5αAVOCUTA, or Butyl Avocadate

An avocado-derived sebum regulator, tenth on the list. Most oil-control shampoos simply strip harder, which is what starts the rebound.

02 · It cleans without stripping

A sulphate-free base

Sulphate-free, so it lifts oil and residue without the harshness. It lathers less than a supermarket shampoo — that is the base, not a fault.

03 · It settles what comes with the oil

Allantoin, horse chestnut, chamomile

Allantoin, horse chestnut and chamomile are in here for the irritation rather than the oil. A greasy scalp is very often a tender one as well.

04 · It is honest about the oils

Geranium, lavandin, cypress

Geranium, lavandin and cypress, plus fragrance. If your scalp is dry and uncomfortable as well, start with Sensitive.

What to expect

Week by week, and the week that actually counts.

This is one of the faster things we sell, and most people can tell inside a fortnight. We still hold ourselves to week eight, because that is when we scan you again and the reading either moved or it did not.

  1. Week 1–2The afternoon is differentThe first thing most people notice. Hair that used to go flat by 3pm holds into the evening. The lather is smaller than you are used to, which is the sulphate-free base doing its job.
  2. Week 3–6You stop washing to hide itRoots stay clean through a full day. The extra wash you used to squeeze in before dinner stops being necessary, and the dry shampoo stays in the drawer.
  3. Week 8The week to judge itSebum is one of the five things we score, so this is the week we scan you again and put week one and week eight side by side. Fast as this series is, week eight is the number we hold ourselves to on every product we sell.
  4. Month 3–6It holds, while you keep goingSebum control is upkeep, not a cure. Stop and the gland returns to what it was doing before. That is true of everything in this category, ours included, and we would rather you heard it from us.
The Oil Control routine

Step one of three.

The shampoo takes the oil off. The conditioner looks after the lengths you have been neglecting to protect your roots. The tonic regulates the gland between washes, which is where most of the change comes from. Used alone it still helps. Used together it is a system.

Not sure this is the right one?

Guessing is expensive. Your first treatment is $59 and it opens with an AI scan of your scalp, so the next thing you buy is the one you actually need.

Before you buy

Questions we get asked

Yes, and you should. It is built as a daily wash and the eight week timeline on this page assumes daily use. If you have been washing twice a day to stay ahead of the grease, drop back to once and give it a fortnight before you judge that.

No sulphates. Lather is a sulphate effect, not a cleaning effect, and sulphates are the part that triggers the rebound we are trying to stop. Less foam, same clean.

It helps, but the tonic is where most of the change comes from. Your scalp makes oil all day and a shampoo is only on it for ninety seconds. If you are buying one thing from this range, buy the tonic.

I have flaking as well as oil.

Then start with a scan rather than this bottle. An oily scalp and seborrhoeic flaking look almost identical in a mirror and are treated differently. Buying the wrong series is the most expensive mistake on this website, and the scan is free with any order.

Yes. No sulphates, so it will not strip tone. If fade is your main concern rather than grease, the Colour Protect series is the better fit.

From your account, or one message to either studio. No minimum term, no cancellation fee.

Give us at least 48 hours before your next delivery is due. Inside that window the parcel is usually already packed, so it goes out as it is and the change applies from the order after.

Yes, free, ready within 24 hours at Raffles City or The Centrepoint. We'll email you the moment it's ready.

Come and talk to us rather than quietly giving up. Eight weeks is the fair test, and a free scalp scan at either studio will show whether the scalp is moving or whether you are simply on the wrong bottle — if it is the wrong one, we will put you on the right one. And if you are holding something unopened, you can exchange it within 14 days of purchase for another product, or a treatment, of equal or higher value.

No. The idea comes up constantly and it does not work — oil and sweat simply sit there longer, and on a Singapore scalp that invites flaking on top of the grease. Wash as often as you need to feel clean.
